Are feature walls naff?

I have decided to decorate my bedroom & I was just wondering if I was 5 years too late to have a wallpaper feature wall behind my bed?

I have feature wallpaper in both my living room and bedroom. I love it and have stuck to really subtle neutrals to make it work. We had to do it as the walls had already been papered and would have needed replastering if we hadn't papered. But I'm glad we did!

I think naff, but mainly because I hate big wallpaper prints. A block painted wall is fine I think

I think if it's quite a subtle feature wall it's actually ok. I do like the examples people have posted. i think I'll pick my blind first & work from there.

Personal choice.

I don't like them at all but lots of people do.

If you like it, go for it.

I actually don't mind the subtle ones, when I hear feature wall I think red and purple garish patterned wallpaper or something

I think feature walls have moved beyond being A Thing, and now the naffness is entirely dependent on how you do it.

Bottom line, though, is that life would be really boring if we all slavishly followed the same trends. Do what will make you happy!

I really like them, if done well. We have got decorators in next week and will be having 3 done. But for me, it has to be a subtle print and a similar colour for the other walls. Our bedroom is going from a hideous (in my opinion) brown patterned wallpaper with bright blue walls and contrasting blue and brown patterned curtains to an off white Laura Ashley paper with a subtle sheen print (in the same colour) with off white walls and wooden blinds. Both feature walls but couldn't be more different!

But then I'm sure the people who used to live here loved their choice and may have hated ours.

LOVE yours Cariadity!

Feature walls are definitely naff in my view. Nevertheless I chose to paint a feature wall (both plain, just a different colour) in both my living room (red) and dining room (navy blue) for fun because I was relishing being able to paint my new house in whatever way I wanted Grin

They are naff and visitors to my house are completely divided on whether they like it (make enthusiastic comments) or loathe it (make no comment at all).

Do what you want!

I think it makes the room look unfinished. As if you ran out of paper or paint. Totally naff in my view.

Is your house old? Picture rails? I think that paper would look nice up to a picture rail on all four walls. I'm not keen on feature walls as I think you should just go for it if you like a colour/pattern, but in your house (and especially your bedroom) do what you like.

I've decided not to do the feature wall. Went to another Laura Ashley & they had the wallpaper up & it's not really me. I'm thinking I might move the radiator from under the window & get full length curtains & paint everything one colour. Only issue is I'd need to get a vertical radiator as limited wall space so going to B&Q to get an idea of what I'll be staring at every night.

That settles it then
