Hi there, I'd suggest going for an oak as this is such a timeless, homely material. Woodpecker do an entry-level range called Raglan which starts from £50/m2. I've got the Oiled Rustic in my living room but they do a lacquered version too. woodpeckerflooring.co.uk/product/raglan-rustic-oak-oiled/

We have oak planks that are quite light. From the Boen modern rustic range. They have lighter planks too in the pure Nordic range - prob around the same price (we paid £42 per square metre). The quality is good and is lasting well in kitchen area.
