Is this hideous?

Help me please oh arty ones. Is this hideous? Or understatedly beautiful? It's a tenner in a local charity shop. Some kind of wood veneer but I think real wood underneath, and inside is real wood. With the mirror removed would it make a beautiful hall console/sideboard type thing or am I peeing in the wind?
I shall repeat that it's a tenner. Plus tenner delivery. So if it's truly hideous, I can just gumtree it and make my money back, no?
It's done something to my heart and I can't stop thinking about it......

Is this hideous?

Sorry to hijack the thread but is g-plan good, i had the g-plan one in my first house because it was about the same price, the lady selling it kept on about g-plan but it meant nothing to me, had the matching table as well.

Thanks for the link Lonny

I've actually recently been made redundant from my job, and in the last month I have been working on trying to set up a small business buying and selling mid century modern furniture.

The sideboard I am actually selling (sadly as we just have no space for it in our maisonette), along with a dressing table that I picked up on Preloved for £16, which I thought was an absolute bargain!

Trouble is, I keep falling in love with stuff and wanting to keep it!

As far as I know, G Plan is quite desirable these days.

I've noticed that a lot of people selling this type of furniture describe it as 'like G Plan', as I think the original stuff is quite pricey now.

PassiveAgressiveQueen · 04/10/2016 22:10

Bugger i replaced it with sticky back plastic mahogany.

G plan is good! Tbh it was never bad, but it's very fashionable these days

Good luck with it Dave. Keep an eye on any houses on 1970s estates near you coming up for sale too. 9 out of 10 will be rubbish but you'll occasionally see one with original furniture - it's always worth popping a note through the door.

Love your furniture Dave!

JasperDamerel · 05/10/2016 08:26

Ooh, that's lovely, Dave.

I got a nice Beautility secretaire last year for £15 from someone selling it on the pavement outside their house. It is my favourite thing in the house.

DavetheCat2001 · 05/10/2016 08:35

Thanks Norbert Smile I am a bit of a furniture-geek. Give me a choice of a day handbag or shoe shopping, or a day nosing around an Aladdin's Cave of a junkshop, and I'll always go for the latter!

I bought and sold a lovely Beautility cocktail cabinet last year. The girl who came to see it was practically squealing with delight!

Nice find for £15 Jasper. Have you got a pic?

Anyone else want to share some furniture porn, please feel free! Grin

I love it too Dave but my husband is very boring conservative in his choices so I haven't been able to go as wild as I'd like. Our new house is 1930's and has a white tiled floor so I'm really hoping to be able to be a bit creative with our decor there. I love all the mid century things and really fancy some nice geometric prints, navy blue, mustard yellow - that sort of thing.

I also have a 'golden key' dressing table that was my grandmother's. It's quite square and ugly to be honest but as its a family heirloom I am very scared of up cycling. Does anyone know anything about the brand? I will try and get a photo of it if I can unearth it from the garage!
