new carpet in bedroom, route to en-suite everyone uses

For some reason my kids use my en-suite rather than their own bathroom.

Now I am getting a new carpet, would it be really naff to place some sort of protection over that strip of carpet.

And if it is ok can you suggest anything, we are getting a nice midnight blue carpet
like this colour:

Don't buy such a dark coloured carpet - they show up every speck of dirt and dust. And get the kids to use the other bathroom!
