is a Kura bed too babyish for soon to be teenage boy?

ds (12) has the box room and it's tiny 6'2 by 6'4

his bed is up for renewal but I really need to think about storage for clothes and all his bits. The ceiling isn't high enough for a high sleeper- we have tried one and it was awful for him as he kept bashing his head

Obviously we would do it up- he loves the colours grey and orange and black together but if it' not Kura then I'm not sure what other options we have - money rather tight as well

We have a room of similar size and the Kura bed but dd1 is 8. She loves it but is already feeling a bit claustrophobic and she's only been in there since Easter. But as with you, we didn't really have any other options. Not sure about the size for an older boy though, if he shoots up he'll be hanging off the edge!

not sure what we'll do if he grows to be as tall as his cousins 6'2 to 6'6 as the room won't accomodate anything other than a single bed
We'll have to make him sleep on the flat roof!

I got a divan with drawers for my sons room, he keeps his clothes in the drawers and he's got a kallax storage unit for all the rubbish he seems to accumulate.

You can't put a near teenage boy in a mid sleeper type bed!

What about IKEA Flaxa or Brimnes? It's difficult to use the full space under a cabin bed anyway so a storage bed might be just as good.

Does he have to have the boxroom?

What about a double loft bed?

Have you thought about a space up bed?? They are basically a highish bed with hydrolics that you life up to reveal draws in at cases. I really don't think a kura bed is suitable for a teenage boy.

Ive just bought one for DD who's 4 and I wouldn't recommend for near teenager. It's not the sturdiest in the world. Ive been up in it a few times and it feels quite rickety when im in it.

It doesn't look very sturdy. What about something like this

thanks for everyones input; I've vetoed the Kura on the grounds of it being flimsy and too childish for him. It was being considered on the grounds of desperation!

Ds has to have the boxroom as there is no other bedroom up for grabs- his older sister has the bigger one and would defend it to the death

Loft style bed no good as the ceiling is too low; we have tried on and it was very claustrophobic for ds even at a younger age esp as he has asthma- and he was cracking his head off the ceiling all the time when sitting up

I really like the look of the space up bed but they are expensive and too big for the size room so am looking to cobble something up with Kallax.

We got a joiner friend to build a built in frame work along one wall with slats and put a mattress on the top. If you had that kind of idea you could choose the height to suit what kind of under storage you needed. Obv you need someone with reasonable diy skills 😀

ds says he really likes the flaxa one with black drawers so might be an option to do that with the seperate storage headboard and a set of drawers

You can put wall units up for storage too, maybe the Stuva ones with black doors?

If you are an Ikea person then consider using a tall wardrobe style Stuva or Pax.

We do not have any chest of drawers in any bedroom, instead we use the drawers within a Pax. It means you can overfill them as you can choose the spacing between them.

We even have a 32" TV inside a double Pax wardrobe.

For the children (13 and 10) they each have two single Pax wardrobes side by side, one has a hanging rail for uniform and then the whole of the other one is just drawers. The top ones are for clothes that Ds1 has grown out of but before I do the big clear out of too small clothes and spare duvet.
