How shit would it look if I painted the leather-look seat of ancient 70s chair?

I've painted the rest of it nice bright blues. Ugly brown seat looks crap against it. Would painting it be a total disaster? Chair is old and rickety and came with the house, can't imagine being arsed enough to get a new seat fitted!

Might not be too hard to reupholster yourself - I've dfonbe it a few tonnes using my trusty staple gun.
But painting over fake leather would look weird, and the paint probably wouldn't adhere for long.
