Single beds for grown-ups - ok or seriously sad?

Hello,

I got rid of the double bed as part of my "moving on" from a relationship.

I'd had a tendency to still sleep on "my" side - partially because I didn't like moving all the pillows about so I could sleep in the middle (which then also meant I couldn't reach the bedside table). (I had 2 sets of 2 still on the bed).

So I got a brand new single bed. But it's next to the wall in quite a big bedroom so it does look a little odd. My friends (and folk on another MN thread about "living alone") think it's a bit sad.

I do enjoy having half the amount of bed linen to wash and I sleep well. Should I move it into the middle of the room?

What do you guys think?
Thanks in advance.

If you're comfortable in it then who gives a shit what anyone else thinks.

If you like it, it doesn't matter what anyone else thinks.

I suppose the only reason I might think it's a bit sad is because it seems to cut off the possibility of anyone else ever sharing it. Like you've given up on sex and relationships forever?

Also, I'm single and I love sprawling in the middle of my double bed.

But it's up to you really.

Thanks guys.
I have a fold out double sofa bed in the spare room should I get lucky!

:-) Mermaid!

It would mean I could hot-foot it back to my own bed if he was a snorer/farter! And my own bed & sheets would stay clean and white!

I've only ever had a single bed and I love it.
I'm quite small anyway.

I have a single bed because my bedroom is so small even though it is the biggest of the three bedrooms. I could maybe fit a threequarter size by changing position of bed but then I would have just 18 inches at the foot of the bed to get round to the other side to make the bed. I blame the planners.

I swapped a dog and two cats for a husband in the double bed. None of them snore, then don't become horrible hot sweaty masses that drape over me and I get to sleep in the very middle.
