Curtains that won't break the bank-or am I just too much of a cheapskate?

We recently moved house and with the exception of two rooms that have rollerblinds the windows were all bare. I've bought curtain poles for every room and put nets (Smile) in the kids rooms for privacy, so my budget is wearing thin now. We're renting so can't go mad making too many holes in walls hence the nets rather than anything else. Most of our old curtains fit the windows except ds's room, his window is quite wide, about 2m and needs something with a 72" drop. I'm not fussed about fancy patterns because he's at an age where his tastes are changing and is also going through a phase of not wanting anything with eyes in his room.

Am I being unrealistic wanting to find something cheaper than the £60 ones that I keep finding online bearing in mind even something plain will do?

We bought some very cheap full length curtains from Home base in plain cream

IKEA go from cheap to high quality.
Or what about using curtain rings equipped with clips and a pretty bedspread or patterned sheets? That's basically what matching curtains are!

2 plain navy options here - my dcs have similar in their rooms (we're also renting and hoping not to be here too long)

Next

The cheaper one would be £35 to fit your window I think and the more expensive £50. (if I've done the inches > cm conversion correctly!)

eBay. I search for next - quality is good. I managed to get one pair of brand new 91x72 in a colour I liked for 40 quid. Also lucked out with kids dinosaur ones for 4 quid.

You can get plain coloured ones in Argos cheap, or look on Amazon. I wouldn't pay £60 for kids curtains, and mine have character and football team ones.

Have a look in Argos/poundstretcher etc.

You could make a bedsheet into curtains using fabric glue/tape for an easy no sew solution.

B&m

Thanks everyone, obviously I haven't been looking in the right places. I didn't even think of looking for sheets/fabric to make my own. I'll be near ikea on Monday with ds so we'll look then. Also checked out the cream homebase ones suggested and looks like they might take a dye if it comes to it.

I know it's only curtains but not being able to find anything was starting to make my head feel like I was looking at a magic eye poster and now someones pointed out the unicorn or whatever those things were meant to be hiding.

Next curtains half price in the sale are pretty cheap. If you get up early they load returns onto the clearance bit of their site every night. It all goes very quickly so you need to check early morning. I did this when I had to replace hideous curtains when broke after a house move and got entirely adequate fully lined curtains for very little.

John Lewis had some relatively in expensive basic ones. Otherwise try Dunelm or Linens Direct.

I bought beige ones from ikea they look rubbish online but gorgeous in real life and are very good quality lined curtains sorry pic is a bit dark

My sons have Ikea Linen type curtains in their rooms, plenty of colour in other things on display. In other rooms I've had bargains from Next - some taupe fully lined curtains for £49 - very large. In my bedroom I have some lined Tesco canvas coloured curtains that were £6 on ebay new - with magnificent tie backs that were another fiver. In my spare room I have lovely patterned lined curtains from Ikea that were £5 in the bottom of a sale bin.
