Grass alternatives?

I need an alternative to grass. We are planning to deck a third of the garden, but what to do with the rest? It'll have a double swing, slide, trampoline, paddling pool on it, basically it will be a play area.

Wood chip means the neighbourhood cats will shit all over it from what I've read on MN

Rubber chips are triple the price of wood chips and means the neighbourhood cats will shit all over it.

And now I'm out of ideas. Help?!

AstroTurf ?

We get electric shocks of our AstroTurf. It's horrible stuff. Tacky. Don't do it (ours is going sometime soon).

If I could afford it, I'd go for fake grass. However, instead we're going to have woodchip and hopefully not too many cats. Maybe get lion poo from your nearest zoo?
