Hi all I am currently decorating my livingroom and feel as though I have lost my way.......

It's painted in Timeless, we have the Ikea Kivik sofa in isunda grey, white/cream shaggy rug & a grey large light pendant. I currently have ikea aina curtains in white up but i think different curtains would make the room feel more finished. It also feels VERY white.

I ordered these from next, but they are to close to the colour of the sofa.

I've ordered some grey cushions 2 dark 2 light and some small yellow/mustard ones.

I really like these but am nervous about floral curtains so I'm throwing it to the mumsnet concensus. What do you think ladies?

Or is there something else that would look fabulous? Thanks in advance.

I prefer the floral.

Penguinotterfoxbadger · 18/03/2015 21:56

Ooh, I liked the floral ones before, but now I really like the grey (unhelpful, sorry). I think they make the wood look cosier iyswim. Mainly you just need some more pictures etc up though, then it'll look really good with either curtains..

AgnesGrey · 19/03/2015 10:45

I like the grey ones much more in your room.
The floral are lovely curtains but I don't think the stained glass bits in your window do the more subtle fabric any favours - the grey holds its own better.

I would go for a few more cushions, perhaps some patterned ones and as Penguin said , either a huge picture or several smaller ones on the wall above the sofa would cosy it up.

yomellamoHelly · 19/03/2015 10:51

Much prefer the grey. More modern.

Then you need something that fits you scheme behind the sofa, whether it's a shelf and lots of things resting on it (like in Karbea's link) or a big modern picture.

LoveVintage · 19/03/2015 16:22

I prefer the grey too, it seems to ground the colour scheme better. You could add floral cushions and textured throws for more contrast.

LoveVintage · 19/03/2015 16:23

I think the floral though lovely, fight against the stained glass a bit too much.

CatinSocks · 19/03/2015 16:35

I think the grey curtains with a different more interesting rug (if the budget can stretch) or patterned cushions to add interest.

Thank you ladies! We decided grey this morning. We came downstairs this morning and both really liked them.

Plan is 2 ikea ribba ledges above sofa with frames on in black and some small white ones (we already have about 8) & an eames rocker in ocean with this cushion

thank you whoever linked itGrin

Due to cost and the fact dd is a terror I can't see a new rug being affordable but we are looking for a new light fitting.

Thank you so much ladies you've really helped.

Glad you convinced your DH of the geometric cushion :D

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 19/03/2015 20:38

I think neither of them are totally suitable. Sorry.

I think you need some texture. These look nice www.dunelm-mill.com/m/shop/ochre-balmoral-lined-eyelet-curtains-383682 these checked curtains by dunelm. I would avoid grey as your room will feel too chilly.

AgnesGrey · 19/03/2015 21:17

I think those curtains are nice also Alpha, but I think ilove has quite a lot going on in her actual windows, so in her room I still think the plain grey is right - there is warmth in the stained glass she has. Also ilove I like the photograph you like which a pp posted. What about a furry cushion like they have on the sofa ?

AlphaBravoHenryFoxtons · 19/03/2015 21:20

That's great that you're happy. Ignore what I said about chilly. Grin I should have refreshed the thread before positing. Smile

I'm probably projecting re chilly as my sitting room is grey, with grey curtains and grey sofas and I feel it's too chilly. But your greys are probably very different.

ilovehotsauce · 19/03/2015 23:17

Alpha I completely understand what you mean by chilly unfortunately neither me or dh really like prints or colour so it was always going to be a bit stark but it's a lot better than the white linen curtains and no cushions of last week! Other than dd room this is the first we 'done' so maybe by the time new have finished a few more we may feel more comfortable with colour & texture etc. The difficulties of living in rentals for almost a decade Wink.

I love your colour scheme, especially in a period house - the stained glass windows are lovely. Have you thought about ikea for a rug? We got a really cheap one a few years ago that has stood up well to my own little terror. They've got ones like this m.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/art/83235110/ that would be a cheap way of adding more texture.
