Help me style this bedroom, I'm incompetent.

We have this coco bed from Loaf in a kind of bluish grey rough linen headboard.

I'm looking for wardrobes, a chest of drawers and bedside tables, plus, lamps, bedding etc.

I usually like the Scandi look, but realise I've gone off my usual brief with this purchase.

Please help me because I'm so clueless I'll end up buying the suggested accompaniments from the Loaf website.

Nice bed. I think the main thing you need to do is make sure you have cool toned or painted wood. It has a French look to me, so maybe try searching 'French style furniture'?

An interior designer is way beyond my budget.

It's a beautiful bed but I think if you buy all new bedroom furniture it could end up looking a bit naff.

I suggest you have a look at some secondhand furniture shops and look for individual pieces. We have just moved and are using a clothes rail until we see the right wardrobe.

Also, apartment therapy is a great interiors website for getting ideas.

I'd suggest you start by ignoring selmiller's "use UPVC windows and doors because they are not only durable but have great aesthetic value and can give your bedroom an instant face lift." What???

Go onto Houzz.com and spend some time trawling photos. When you see one that appeals (for whatever reason) click it and save it into an idea book. You end up with a big collection of photos and can then see the trends emerge. it really helps you to focus on what look you want to achieve and which things go well together. It will also give you some ideas for which colours you want to introduce.

Once you have a few thoughts straight in your head come back and we'll help some more (or post a design dilemma on Houzz.com and everyone will pile in with suggestions.)

What direction is the room facing? Depending on the light, you could go for a soft grey, silver and accessorise with reindeer rugs and cream blankets and cushions.

Beautiful bed! I agree with looking for some second hand furniture . I've found some lovely stuff even from gumtree .

I've a friend who gets loads of her stuff from gumtree and paints it with Annie sloan chalk paint ( no sanding or priming needed). It looks fab !

I'll have a look at those sites thanks. I've never done second hand furniture before (never had the time to browse, I do everything online). I think I might come unstuck with secondhand because I'm looking for two wardrobes - not much chance of finding two the same or similar enough perhaps?

I've never done DIY furniture restoration and I suspect if I did it would look absolutely shit!

But I'm heading over to eBay now...

I had a little look on ebay and I've realised it makes me really anxious. For example, I saw a wardrobe that looks OK, but hard to tell from the photos, dirt cheap and local to me for pick up, but then the what ifs start - what if it's crap? what if I don't win it? what if I never find anything? what if there's something better round the corner? What if the drawers are sticky?

Ok. Why do the wardrobes have to match? Buying on ebay. You have seen something you like that is local. It's perfectly acceptable to go and view before you bid. I've done it loads of times. I can't remember if you said which way the bedroom is facing. Given plenty of light and space I would have 2 dramatic dark wardrobes.

ah, it's a north facing room and will have white shutters due to an awkward bay window.

but yes, the wardrobes don't need to match I guess, just be 'in keeping' with each other.

I would agree on vintage furniture but IMO dark chunky wardrobes can look a bit like upright coffins, I think neutral colours look better and second the Annie Sloan suggestion (if you can be bothered to do it).
