Could you come and look at this picture and tell me if it's ok

I've lost my way with home decor - used to know what I liked and could achieve it - everything I do now looks ok and not great

I'm stuck with an ugly fireplace but it's not hideous enough to replace.

I've painted the walls Cornforth white which I love and hung some lace curtains on a window - they won't be closed so they are just for decoration. And I've chosen some things to go on the fire - mostly candles

Anything missing? Too much/too little?

I've lit the candles even though it's the middle of the day - the room gets a lot of light, has massive windows in it

The decoration looks good, it's just quite an odd place for a fireplace, below a window!

I like it, except the mirror looks a little too big?

The other walls have doors or floor to ceiling windows - that's the smallest window (weird window)

I have smaller mirrors - will give it a go after lunch

Yes, odd windows over the fireplace. But the curtains must draw over the fireplace!

I can't draw the curtains - that would look v v odd as they couldn't go behind the fire. Not overlooked there.

I am currently hanging more curtains on the giant window now. And making grey candles to go on the side tables.

That window just looks odd to me. Personally I'd aim to cover it with some roller blinds if there's lots of other light sources. Once the window is hidden the mirror won't look so out of place. Either one must go- it's too crowded and wrong to have two sources of light / reflection in one spot. The window is also so bright you're losing the effect of the fireplace and whatever dressing up you've done with it.

I think I'd like a wooden venetian or a shutter in the same colour as the fire surround on that window.

I'd lose the mirror and think about putting a flat pale voile panel over the window if shutters are too expensive (would be my first choice).
It would need to be on wires top and bottom given its above the fire.
DO you use the fire?

I am sorry to be honest and I am hoping you don't mind, but a fireplace needs a chimney and that cannot be so with windows above.
It looks wrong to me and I would relocate the fireplace, to a different room if necessary.

Why do you need the fireplace? Because it must be a 'pretend' one as it can't be used. Love the colourings, I would take the fireplace out and have metal tie backs that you can hook the curtains round. If the fireplace must stay, I would remove the mirror as it isn't hung, it is just resting there which looks a tad odd. Do like the way you have dressed all this though

Having looked at this again I would either take out the fireplace or hide it by putting some furniture in front of it.

The whole thing is too much for that spot.

What you have done is totally lovely, but it just doesn't work with that tiny window.

Is it possible you could post another picture of the whole room? I want to see the balance a bit more clearly.
