White sofas. Have I lost the plot?

We have two loose cover sofas. I really really fancy white covers. It looks so fresh and bright.

We have two pre-schoolers, a dog like what-a-mess, live rurally, DH generally covered in engine oil.

But I can wash them frequently, and my MIL has almost convinced me that white is the best colour for most things as you can bleach (chemical/sunlight).

Any experiences?

I've had a white Ektorp sofa for quite a few years. It's survived two children, I don't know how I managed it - but I did! I use light covers to keep it safe, and the kids are banned from eating dinner, chocolate etc. on it. It also washes very well when there are accidents.

It probably was silly to buy, but I'm a massive fan of the light and airy look. Just couldn't help myself.

I use vintage métis sheets as throws over mine. Looks nice and very easy to change when the dog brings half the garden in with him! I get them on eBay or etsy usually.

we have white. its fine. and 2 littlies. biggest trouble comes from Red wine. . but after a few washes it comes out well.

best £50 I've ever spent - nearly 10 years ago on eBay.

We have an IKEA Klippan sofa with white covers, they are fine, and the biggest mess ever made on them was when DH spilt some chocolate mousse on one (not the kid's fault). But they are cotton and wash easily. Because our are an IKEA standard it's easy to get new covers, we've had the sofas a few years and are now on covers 4&5. Not sure I'd do it unless covers were cheap and easy to replace.

We have v v good quality white washable sofa covers and a dirty sticky DS 3. It's a great idea! Go for it.
