New online store: home decor

Hi guys,

Since having children and working from home I have decided now is the perfect time to work on my dream of running my own business.

I want to sell home furnishings online so everything from, bedding to wallart and rugs to small furniture pieces. etc.

I was hoping I could count on your help for some information on what you look for in an online store? And of course if anyone wants to throw in some hints and tips, please do!

Im a sucker for throws, blankets and cushions- ooh and nice cushions.
Some small decoative bits along with the bigger stuff, like scented candles and candle holders is always great and allows people to try out your site, get their confidence up with you and spend some money, even when they are hard up!!

I think inspiration is what most people look for - so not necessarily a fully co-ordinated range where everything matches but giving advice on how to put a look together etc. People look for photos of rooms, mood boards, samples of fabrics.

Have a look at Pottery Barn in the USA. They give lots of ideas of what to do with their products. Obviously a very big store in comparison but lots of great ideas there.

I'd work around how easily pinned (Pinterest) the images and ideas are. I'm currently designing my garden and am creating mood boards. I plan to buy a few things from beautiful images created by shops.
