"Cream" white paint - keep SERIOUSLY messing up, please help!

Apologies in advance for long message, but its been a saga. We have 4 kids under 5 and a house we are (very slowly) doing up on a tight budget. Each time we have painted a room (all magnolia from previous owners), me and dh have raced off to Homebase whilst GPs are keeping an eye on the dcs, and chosen a white paint (no time for testers here!). Each time we have ballsed up massively. We (well, me, dh hasn't a clue) are looking for a warm cream white for painting the rest of the house (dark rooms), to lighten the place up a bit. We have instead bought a white paint for the living room which makes it look like a sanatorium, its SO cold white. And a dull, 'light absorbing' white for a very dark dining room (didn't read the label on that occasion). Doh! Please help - any recommendations for a warm Devon creamy white (not magnolia, not yellowish) would be very welcome and appreciated. Am on maternity leave at present, so money tight. F and B therefore out. As is any 'make to mix' paints (haven't the time to mess around). Thank you.

www.farrow-ball.com/colours/paint/fcp-category/list number 3 off white]] do you mean that sort of colour?

if yes then we can have a look round for something a tad cheaper in the same sort of shade Grin

Crown Ivory Cream. It's the nicest cream colour I've ever tried, half the house is painted in it now!

PeazlyPops · 03/12/2013 19:35

Orchid white is lovely, think its dulux or crown. It's clean and fresh without being too stark.

AndIFeedEmGunpowder · 03/12/2013 19:36

F&B white tie?

Toptack · 03/12/2013 19:38

Second vote for orchid white - we've just painted our hallway that colour and it's lovely. Def more clotted cream than semi skimmed tho. It's from Dulux.

MiserableCowWhenUpTheDuff · 03/12/2013 19:43

We used crown antique cream... I love it :)

RosinaCopper · 03/12/2013 19:50

We live in a dark, old house and have put Aged White (Crown) all over the place and it does the job brilliantly.

steeking · 03/12/2013 20:02

dulux "timeless" is a true warm white. it's only just cream but without that yellow colour of a lot of creams

Enb76 · 03/12/2013 20:06

I'm using Dulux Dairy Farm which is proper cream but bright as opposed to a bit muddy looking. I really like it and it's brightened the house no end.

bakingaddict · 03/12/2013 20:14

Dulux Ivory Lace. Just did the living room and it has a lovely warmth whilst still being light and airy. B&Q were doing 3 4 2 when I bought mine

onedogandababy · 03/12/2013 20:17

Crown soft linen is another good creamy colour. I have it in a north facing kitchen & hallway.

petitdonkey · 03/12/2013 20:20

I second Timeless which is a great shade but can be cool in a room with no sun. 'Ivory Lace' is a proper, rich clotted cream - not too yellow though - I love it. (both Dulux)

beachesandbuckets · 04/12/2013 10:03

Great, thanks everyone! Will go forth and conquer (the house) with a couple of testers when I have a spare second.

beachesandbuckets · 04/12/2013 12:37

Is the Homebase own brand cheaper in your opinion? Thanks!

we have dulux classic cream in our lounge which I really love. It is a north facing room so not hugely bright but the colour works well.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 21/12/2013 21:46

I don't PERSONALLY think it looks anything like the colour on their website.

nonicknameseemsavailable · 21/12/2013 21:48

ah now the reason it doesn't look that colour is that hubby has just informed me it is in fact HOMEBASE classic cream not dulux so it is this one

WhatWouldCaitlinDo · 01/01/2014 20:57

We have homebase classic cream in a north facing bedroom and Dulux almond white in an east facing room. Both v good.

jennybongo · 20/03/2016 10:16

I've gone off Farrow and Ball. Their estate eggshell has not stood the test of time and is awful. It's cetainly not durable. I have swithched to Johnson's mix of the F+B White Tie which goes on a treat due to having an oil base.
I'm not convinced the colour is accurate but that may be down to lighting.
White Tie is a pale cream. Classic and beautiful.

SoConfused15 · 20/03/2016 18:33

Dulux Timeless is a good soft white I think. We have painted our house in Dulux Almond white which is darker, but not too yellow.

Dulux Timeless

Works in light rooms, works in dark rooms, works everywhere. Warm white, not at all yellow.

TremoloGreen · 22/03/2016 22:02

Dulux Timeless
Little Greene Slaked Lime or Whitening (SL is a dirtier white, Whitening a v pale cream)
Crown Sail White or Gallery white (GW goes particularly well to balance blues)
