Induction v Gas!

Hi Ladies, I really need some help in chossing between a induction hob and a gas hob. Ive got about a week to decide and order as the rest of our kitchen is coming next week!

The biggest thing that attracts me to the induction hob (i have never owned one mind) is the ease of cleaning and enery saving.

Can anyone give me further advice, which do you prefer and why? Is the induction hob really better more enery effective?

I went gas after much mulling as a semi-serious cook (ie most meals start with me chopping an onion but it's not cordon bleu by any means). Mostly because I get to "know" the rings and wanted the controllability. I also note that most chefs seem to use gas on tv/in their "my kitchen" articles in food magazines and figure they've had a chance to try most things.

I'd want some real experience of induction, eg at a holiday let, someone elses' house, before plumping to replace my job with it (and spend the ££££) even though ease of cleaning appeals.

*hob, not job, obvs.

I was persuaded to have induction hob last year and they are fab-love the ease of cleaning and they look sleek. I always thought I would have gas.
Downsides are not all saucepans work on them-Le Creuset cast iron ones do , get a magnet and if it works on your saucepan it will be fine.
Also not suitable for if you have a pacemaker.

Depends on what sort of cooking you do, if you are a real foody , gas is the way to go, as it more versatile for cooking.

You could get two half hobs and have both,(helpful me) we often put in duel hob arrangements.

I design and install a lot of high end kitchens, gas is expected if available, even when mains is not, we are usually expected to install bottle, so I would say that people do seem to want gas hobs.

The property we just completed had a gas hob, two induction rings and a wood burning aga.

Have a look at some of the gas hob designs available, some designs are very cleaning friendly.

I opted for induction when we lived in a house with no gas connection. It was fast and generally cooked well, but yes you do need special pots and pans. But I must say I do prefer gas as it is easier to regulate when cooking and for example if you use a wok, gas is far better IMHO.
