Cottage Berber carpet - anyone else had problems? Apparently damage due to me hoovering it!!

We have had cottage Berber carpet laid in study/playroom. Advised it was hard wearing and ideal for high volume traffic. Within six months there are two patches in each room by the doors that have worn to the backing. We have had it looked at by the manufacturer who says its because we hoovered it so they are not responsible - and fitter says hoovering is not a fitting error so they are not responsible either! Argument commencing - please tell me this is absurd as it sounds and that a new carpet should cope with a Hoover!!

That's crazy!! I would change tracks and ask why you were not told to not hoover it. Also ask why this is not stated on their website/paperwork??

Could you mention trade descriptions...does it really fit in that category. If it's true surely they should have told you something like that given that people hoover as standard.

Not fit to be hovered then not fit for purpose - and Emailed back copy of contract where there is no advice about not hovering. Just had a phone call - they have offered full refund as credit to spend back with them for replacement of whatever I would like. Worked a treat - thank you!

Hurrah that's excellent news!! I sometimes think they're either trying their luck or you end up with someone who doesn't know what they're doing. I still can't believe they said you shouldn't have hoovered your carpet. Make sure you're "allowed" to hoover your next one. Might even be worth getting it in writing. Me, pesimistic never?!!
