Advice needed for taking baby milk on planes

We will be flying off on holiday in a couple of weeks time (our first trip with our new baby daughter who will be 3 months old) and would be interested to hear views/advice on taking baby milk with us for the journey. We are flying from Gatwick to Croatia so only a relatively short flight, thank goodness. Specific questions that spring to mind are:-

  • can you get boiled water at the airport once you are through to the departure lounge?
  • can you take made up bottles of formula milk through to departures/onto the plane?
  • if you can take made up bottles, can you take more than 100ml in a bottle?

Any advice would be gratefully received.

Thanks in advance
JJ

Hi JJ. You can take made up bottles of formula (or made up bottles of cooled boiled water to add formua to) through security, but they will make you take a sip from each bottle you have. You can take more than 100mls in the bottles too. You can also get boiled water easily from one of the cafes/restaurants once in the departure lounge.
Have a fun trip! xxx

That depends on what airport and who is on duty at customs! I've been let through with stuff and other times had the lot thrown away.

Best tip is to pre-order cartons at airside boots.

Never had that before tefal-duly noted for future!

Many thanks Wigglemama, I'll take cooled boiled water and see if they let me through and if not then I'll just replace once in the departure lounge.

Since posting my original question, I have found a Security Guidelines leaflet published by Gatwick Security which states their policy. For other Mums about to travel through Gatwick here's the link Gatwick Security Leaflet

Hello - i sympathise - we just did this to portugal a couple of weeks ago! I took ready made cartons with me and they made me open 50% of them, so I poured one straight into a bottle for on the flight and the other i sadly had to bin, but I wouldn't have got it into a fridge in time. I use aptamil and when i got through there was none in boots, so was glad i took it with me. Also packed some for on the way home, i never saw ready made milk in the supermarkets.

Hope you don't mind me asking but what is with the cooled boiled water though? I'm always confused about this because if you use powder, I thought you had to mix it with water which was 70 degrees to kill bacteria? More motherhood mysteries!
