How many rooms with DS 3 and DD 1?

We're hoping to go on a foreign holiday early next year (I know I'm getting ahead of myself a little!) with the DCs who will be just 3 and 14 months.

What do people usually do about rooms for children this age? Just a normal resort hotel room? A 2 bedroom apartment? Kids in the main bedroom, parents on the sofa?

Also, can anyone give any recommendations for good places in March? (I'm guessing will have to be Canaries or similar to be warm at that time of year). Can't be too expensive - rough budget of £1200 for the whole shebang.

Well, this is the problem I found. Interconnecting rooms are the best but its going to cost. Usually its the top end hotels that provide this. My hubby would not sleep on a sofabed for a holiday that costs he (and I) want to be very comfortable with privacy. But I'm sure it works for many.

Put it this way last year (Nov)we went to Tenerife to a lovely hotel and the hotel cost £2,500 plus flights. Believe me Tenerife isnt cheap and depends on what standard you want. I looked at the hotel this year and got no deals - around £4k for B&B! Eating out was passable - but not cheap.

I'd guess self catering would be a cheaper option then. I would revert to Trip advisor to see what is nice. Tenerife has some nice areas and some run down yuky areas too.

I booked my holiday independantly but be warned the flights were around £800 for 4 of us (2 adults, 7 month, 4 yr).

Short local flights a must and good weather so the canaries are the best bet.

Anyway we have reverted back to the caravan this year. No money!!!!

What do people do in self catering apartments? 1 room? 2 rooms?

We're heading off on hols next week - and have just booked a 1 bed apartment for me, DP and 2DDs (6 and 9 months) - haven't quite worked out sleeping arrangements yet! Think one of us will sleep with each of the girls (can't put 9 month in with 6 year old). Luckily we'll be staying near friends for most of the time, so DD (6) can have a couple of sleepovers and we may be able t.o borrow a travel cot.

We're going to Spain - flights to Barcelona were only just over £400, accommodation will be about 800E I think (God!!!)
