Family friendly hotels in Las Vegas?

We are having a couple of days in Vegas with two DCs - 9 and 12.

Am finding the selection of hotels and reviews etc bewildering as no hotel stands out as good all-round - some of the heavily themed ones look fun but am wondering if the whole cabaret plus casino thing in the hotel will be overwhelming for the kids - we're not interested in gambling or the shows just want a nice fun hotel with a good pool to get the feel of vegas.

We stayed at the Embassy Suites convention centre as recommended by Trip Advisor, it had two rooms and a little kitchen. The pool opened at 6 am. They have complimentary snacks at the bar in the evening, and it is close to the strip if yo want to go there.

The MGM Signature is just off the Strip and consists of three towers. These three towers have 1 or 2 bedroom apartments which are also fully equipped throughout. It is both a non smoking and non gambling facility so ideal for families. Would thoroughly recommend (there is also an air conditioned covered walkway that links the Signature with the MGM Grand). People staying at the Signature can use all of the MGM Grand's facilities but not the other way around!.

I can verify the carpets are ghastly!

We stayed slightly off strip but they ran a shuttle bus from 12.00pm till 12.00am every 15 mins. Was fabulous.

we stopped here - a two bed, two bathroomed apartment.

thanks everyone have now "narrowed" our search down to Cancun resort, Embassy Suites, caesars palace and Luxor so will choose one of those! Thanks everyone for your input - it's great to hear from people who've actually been there!

We stayed at The Vdara, just behind The Bellagio (with a view of the fountains from our room), it opened in Dec 2009, has no casino and is totally non smoking - it was an oasis of calm after the frenetic Vegas days!

Oh, and the Cirque Du Soleil 'Love' show was amazing

My mum stayed at the Luxor, said it was a nightmare because it took ages to get from your room to reception. It's also not great location wise.

I would also go with Caesars if you can afford it, or one down that end. Is Treasure Island still that end? Thats the best area IMO
