Malaysia with an 8month old

Hi - we are going to Malaysia (we were going to Thailand but have changed our plans...). Has anyone been to Malaysia with a young baby - where did you stay, where would you recommend, any tips??

What time of year are you going? If summer (April to Oct) head for the east coast - Tioman or Redang islands. If winter (Nov to March) then the west coast ie Lankawi (I didn't like Penang much).

Cameron highlands could be nice as a break from the heat/humidity.

Be prepared for some serious rainstorms in KL, especially in summer. (but they only last a few hours).

Haven't been with a young baby though so can't advise on specific resorts - was a backpacker!

We had a great time with DS then 9 months. We took a lightweight buggy and travelled all over the place. Redang was beautiful, but a bit tricky with a small baby as its not straightforward to get there.

I took some jar food for my son for the times that suitable food wasn't available but fresh fruit is everywhere and you can buy food easily in the big cities.

KL was very easy to get around and very family friendly. We stayed at Hotel Nikko which was a good standard for the price.

In Penang we stayed at a 3* place, quite forgettable but a good location - it wasn't that exciting though compared to KL!

We enjoyed the East Coast and had very helpful service from Ping Anchorage who organised all the travel to Redang island from Kuala Terengganu as well as a really interesting sightseeing trip round Terengganu itself - all organised by email and paid for by fax from here. Hope that helps!

we went last easter when DS was 8 weeks old. We spent a week in KL which was a bit manic and then a week in Langkawi which was lovely. Take your own baby food/formula if your DC has specific preferences as it was hard to find there.
Very family friendly place in my opinion and I'd go again.
