Alternative UK destination if no flights on Sat

My DD, DH, my parents and I are due to fly out to Spain on Saturday. If this is cancelled because of the volcanic ash can anyone recommend an alternative in the UK (Eurostar is about £2000 to Belgium so ruled out travelling abroad)?.

My daughter is 8 months. We were going to stay in a friend's apartment so needs to be quite cheap so probably not centre parcs!

We live in London and would drive for about 3 hours (Devon but probably not Cornwall). Will be a squeeze with 5 of us in a Honda Civic!

How long are you planning to go for?
There's a lot to do in Kent, perhaps stay in Broadstairs?

or head down towards Hythe on the south coast?

depends what you fancy doing and which side of london you are on

for me it would be a toss-up between Bournemouth, Bath or Southwold

i think personally i would choose bath with an 8month old, but i don't take babies to beaches

Bath - with a buggy and all those hills? But it is lovely....

oh dear perhaps you're right

as you were

We have a week. I think I would prefer self-catering too just for ease of feeding DD. However I would want to be in walking distance of pub/small town to make use of babysitters one or two nights! Is Bath expensive for accommodation?

How about somewhere on the Isle of Wight - should be a fairly easy drive and there's lots of self-catering accommodation, plus the ferry ride makes you feel you are actually going somewhere a bit different.
Try giving Wight Locations a call - they are a smallish local company and were very helpful when we stayed with them.

fingers crossed that your flight goes ahead tomorrow.
Friends of mine were due to fly back to the Middle East yesterday but were cancelled but have been told (so far!) that they will be on the flight on Saturday am. I hope they are as DC1 and 2 are supposed to be flying back to the UK on that flight early hours Sunday morning to go back to boarding school.

Fingers crossed for all of us

Judging by the latest press announcements from EuroControl I would assume (though no decsion will be made yet, as they are working on about a 12-18 hour forecast window) that there will be no flights tomorrow.

oh deep joy. DH (their step-father) will be overjoyed with the thought of having them longer.
Ryan air have just annouced that they have cancelled all flights until lunchtime on Monday!
