We'd like a 2 or 3 bedroom cottage/gites/luxury mobile home somwhere picturesque in France (going to drive there). Any time in Agust cannot be bank breaking stuff.

For me, DH, 2 DCs (5 and 1) and my dad.

No clue where to look and the websites google is throwing up all seems extortionately priced and.or too much choice!

How long for? Budget? How far are you prepared to drive?

MinnieMalone · 29/03/2010 15:14

A week.

Unsure of budget, as no idea what's good value. Not more than £600 or £700 I would imagine. Preferably cheaper. Is that realistic?

Prepared for a bit of driving. Would definitely head south.

The only bit of France I know outside of Paris is the Cote D'Azur, but it all seems a bit poncy/pricey down there for family holiday.

We want somewhere pretty, preferably with places to walk/picnic/potter and a few nice day trips not too far away. Beach within an hour's drive would be a big plus.

Something like this? or this or www.holiday-rentals.co.uk/p454352

Oh, they are all lovely. That first one is stunning, but not sure about mountainous areas. All great! Thank you so much. Need to do a bit of research into the areas. What's Brittany like?

The coastline is beautiful. I guess the weather can't be guaranteed. I would do the South of France everytime, but it's a long drive for one week, and your budget is a bit limited. Normandy is lovely. We spent a week near to Lisieux when dd was a baby. Georgeus countryside and not too far to the coast. Burgundy is also very pretty, weather a bit warmer but no seaside. Or there is the Dordogne.....

MinnieMalone · 30/03/2010 12:08

Thanks Portofino.

The weather is the problem. I really want sunshine!

Blimey Portofino, I want to stay in both those properties. Good finds.

Portofino · 30/03/2010 12:50

Right - you want sun......

This is a bargain!

Private pool for 750 euros

Another bargain

and I like this one!

I'm a frustrated travel agent!

have a look here they are usaully much cheaper than others and have good vans!! Brittany and The vendee areas are fab for holidays but you can't guarantee the weather. You might bebetter off flying to the south and finding a site where you don't need a car? I'm going to a Siblu site - in the languedoc where it looks like we won't need a car. can't remeber the name just at the mo and need to go back to work now. Will post a link later!

The last week of August is often cheaper than the other weeks because it is less popular. A lot of people don't like to combine return from hols with return to school.

Portofino · 30/03/2010 12:59

We stayed actually at Siblu's Lac des Reves last year. It was lovely and highly recommended by me - but cheap it is not - In August about 1300 for one week!
