Croatia near Zadar - any recommendations

Friends are getting married in Coatia this summer (Sat 7th Aug). DH is probably best man. MIL is desperate to take the children for a week (I am very lucky). Our budget is tiny.

Before anyone judges this will be the first holiday without children for 10 years and we will still have a family break which will probably be a week camping in the Lake District.

The wedding is about 20 miles away from Zadar, we would love to fly out to Croatia early and have a few days on the beach & relaxing before the wedding.

Can anyone recommend somewhere cheap to stay in/near Zadar and how to get there. Should we get Ryan Air flights and book a hotel or appartment seperately or does anyone know of any cheap package deals.

DH is a night owl and would want to sleep in, I would be awake a LOT earlier and couldn't stand being stuck in a hotel room waiting for him to wake up. So at the very least I would need access to coffee and a balcony or preferably a sun-lounger and a pool/beach. That holiday 10 years ago, I was 10 weeks pregnant with DS and still woke up 2 or 3 hours before DH - OK he would be up a lot later at night, but would walk me back to the hotel first.

Neither of us are into clubbing but would definately want to go to a bar and meet other people in the evening.

Sorry it has turned into quite a long post.

yes- holiday village zaton- we stayed there sep 08 in a mobile home. It was very cheap and lovely too!

sorry I didn't write more last night!

We flew to Zadar in sep 09 and stayed at Camp Zaton. We had a 3yo, a 2yo and 4mo at the time. It was brilliant. The campsite is massive and situated in lovely shady trees but well spaced with plenty of light. The whole place is immaculate and the toilet facilities are spotless. There are baby baths in the shower blocks too. The site is directly on a sandy beach- very rare for croatia and the water is lovely, calm and shallow. There is also a playpark right on the beach.

There were no other british people when we went and hardly any english speakers but all the cafes/shops/restaurants had menus in english/dutch/german/french so that was fine.

We couldn't find teabags so take your own.

The swimming pools at the campsite are also very good. there are loads of activities on offer but because we went end of season most of them had finished but in August there will be loads to do. I think it will be quite busy but it is huge and there are plenty of facilities.

our mobile home cost about £220 for 2 weeks!

I really would recommend it!

zaton

oh just re-read and saw you are not taking children!

Well our taxi driver told us that basically everyone who lives there rents out their apartments in the summer as it is a good way to make money and they are all very poor.

There are some really lovely places available.

lucky you!

Sorry to come back so late to this thread.
These places all look fantastic, but we cannot afford it. RyanAir prices are high at the moment and the exchange rate is dire so it just works out too expensive.

DH will fly out to wedding and just stay the night before & after.

We will ask MIL to have them for a different week (she hasn't booked the time off work yet). Might decide to go to the travel agents a week before our holiday and see what special offers they have!

oh that's a shame! You must be disappointed. We flew with ryan air and it was cheap but we needed two flights (ed-standsted/stan-zadar) and by the time you've added on all their extra/hidden charges for bags etc it's not that great!

Hope you get to go somewhere nice!
