Looks like we can aford a 5 star all inclusive holiday in Egypt. HOwever, am dubious about the fact that 5 star places are afordable. Can anyone recommend / advise anything?? Not stuck on Egypt, will go anywhere hot and sunny. Thanks

I did an all inclusive, it was only 3 star but it was lovely. Took a coach trip to Cairo to see the pyramids which was the main reason I chose Egypt. I think 5 star will be fabulous. The only thing I will mention is that I didn't feel that safe venturing out of the complex. Armed guards on the coaches etc. It has been a long time since tourists have been targetted, thankfully. Oh and I am a bit of a worrier.

It was slightly inland just a short bus ride from Naama Bay, Sharm El Shiek (sp) which is an enclosed resort, security wise. We took a bus or taxi to the beach, which is why it was only 3 star. Some of the hotels are really smart so worth paying a bit more for. I was on a budget at the time.

We went 5star to Hurgharda - amazing hotel own beach, felt 100% safe & unbothered by all the myriads of men working there, be they maids, waiters, groundsmen - felt could safely leave camera and purse etc on beach as was secure and own hotel beach.
Step foot out of it though and omg. Was a bit scary, everyone is so poor they want a tip for anything. We flew to Cairo to see the pyramids, but the excursion included stopping at loads of shops & bazaars, expensive ones, the guide is on commission...
We did venture into Hurghard itself one night and literally men were running at us with dodgy watches and glasses etc. Was very overwhelming.
On the plus side, the hotel was secure, no one was allowed to tip or take tips, there was a central tip box, but once you got out, it wasnt so good. We only went as my parents dive and its amazing for that
The only other hting i would say is that we went in October, the sun set at 5pm LOL - very very long evenings and we never even made it to the evening entertainment as it started at 10
AND..... its a long flight, 5 hrs, and expesnive flight, if you want to be able to wander about like you do in Cyprus, i would go elsewhere

QOD hotel sounds good though. Would you name the hotel? How long ago did you go?
Thanks

We go to Taba Heights regularly. The hotels are all on the beach. There is nothing to do in the evenings, but we are up at 6am to snorkel or dive while it's still quiet and the fish are close to the shore.

We use Longwood Holidays. The reps and services are excellent.

wewent to Sharm, weren't AI but others in the hotel were

the cheaper 5* hotels are on the non-beach side of the road so read location info carefully

obv it is not like going to a European tourist destination but is no worse than eg tunisia, morocco etc

We were looking at Egypt for this year but were put off by the fact that it can be 40 degrees c in the summer (not great with small children). When were you thinking of going?
I think 5 all inclusive in Sharm is relatively cheap because there are so many 4 and 5* hotels there, which makes prices competitive.
DP and I went to Hurghada when I was pg with DS1 and it was lovely but we did get a lot of hassle from the locals outside the hotel to come into their shop, where they ply you with free tea and make you feel guilty if you don't buy anything.
Also the hotel was full of Russians and the food was geared up for them - I couldn't identify a lot of the dishes.
We went for a 4* AI in the Dominican Republic in the end, where prices are also very reasonable.
