Anyone been to Sicily? Self-catering?

just wondering if anyone has been recently and has experience of areas around Palermo - esp. Cefalu. We have booked flights to Palermo and are not sure whether to do the long drive over to a villa near Taormina - went there years ago and have always wanted to go back! However the area around Palermo seems a bit more affordable in terms of holiday rentals etc. TIA!

We stayed in a family friendly B&B in the hills outside Palermo. We hired a 7 seater a nd drove to various beaches each day. The B&B gave us a group of 3 rooms for all of us which worked very well.
