we are in Glasgow and we want to take the kids to Edinburgh this weekend.

we plan to drive as the train, although very handy, seems expensive for 4 of us

can anyone advise me about parking, where to park for the attractions on Princes Street and also a good restaurant to take the kids nearby everything without getting in the car again? kids love pizza/pasta/burgers (basically anything bad for them...IYKWIM)

what are the attractions like? anyone know the prices involved?

any advice appreciated!

You can park on castle terrace car park, very central, just off lothian road right under the castle.

There are three pizza express restaurants, one just off princes street, a bit tucked away down the road opposite the caladonian hilton hotel, which is also near the carpark I mentioned, another near dynamic earth, which is situated next to the parliament building and Arthurs Seat. Just ask someone for directions to the nearest!

Places to visit, dynamic earth, Museum, Mary kings close, Castle, Camera Obscura, princes street gardens, zoo.

Gardens and museum free, the others expensive!

Hope that helps

thanks

is that care park nearto the attractions on Princes street? I think we'll just be visiting the shows and the big wheel

ssd, kids go free on the train to edinburgh from Glasgow - 2 kids per adult. So it would only cost £10 return per adult. I'll see if I can find details on the Scotrail site for you.

MrsMuddle · 17/12/2009 19:17

Here you go. They keep it very quiet!

Castle terrace will cost you £10 for 6 hours parking too so not cheap. Much more relaxed to get the train, honestly.

Also kids are free - see here:

There's also a car park opposite John Lewis (Greenside) or if you go past that and turn right onto London Road parking is free on Saturday if you're lucky enough to get a space. Less than five-minute walk to Princes Street. In the Omni Centre on way up to Princes Street there is a Pizza Hut and other restaurants.

Try kiddingaroundedinburgh.co.uk for good ideas. As well as the big wheel etc. there are reindeer to visit in the second part of Princes Street Gardens if your kids are younger.

Have a lovely time!

Definately get the train, last weekend before christmas in Edinburgh, not a hope in hell of getting parked.

Theres a TGI fridays just of Princes Street as well.

Theres an ice rink, German market, Ferris wheel and various other rides, its very festive and fab.

We are going through tomorrow, can't wait.
