car seat dilemma; forward or backwards

My DS is 9 months old and 11.5kg. We have 2 car seats; his original backwards facing maxicosi and a cheap forward facing britax which we use when going for short journeys in my DH's car. He fits well into both but looks more comfortable now in the britax as when he sleeps in the maxicosi he slumps forward and sometimes he makes horrible squeaky breathing noises.
I now have to do a 2 hour journey which we haven't done for a while. Which should I put him in for best safety and comfort?
Is it dangerous to sleep with their head slumped like that?
Thanks MN experts!

I've put two in mine in forward facing. Really cant see what all the fuss is about. The whole issue confuses me and as long as they are put in safely then no one can 100% guarantee anything. I put my boy at 7 month old into forward facing and he loves it as he can see us and can see where he is going. He also slumps forward but cant see backward facing would make any differnce. Because of the relaxation of the journey babys are prone to drop off head falling forward against dropping back like we do. I dont know of anything to stop this happening unless you recline the seat as far back as poss which is what I do at moment. If this seat doenst recline then I would see about picking up a second hand one as sitting right up isnt really fair on a young child.

i would use the rf seat for as long as possible and think about getting a rf group 1 car seat. do not buy a 2nd hand one though as you don't know the history or if they have been in an accident, dropped etc. check out the rf website below.
