Eurocamp style holidays - can anyone recommend one?

In the past two years we have done a Siblu holiday in france and a Eurocamp holiday in Spain. Next year we'd like to do something similar and we're wondering if there are any other companies that do similar types of holiday that we should have a look at / get brochures for. Anyone able to recommend any? We want to be near beaches, culture, but not really 'egg and chips'. Not too far flight times either as 4yr and 2yr DS's don't do too well on flights!

we have used canvas, eurocamp, and keycamp. they are all much the same. key things we look out for are facilities on site - eg bar, slides etc (we like these - you may not!) and how big the pitches are - don't want to be squashed. sites not adjacent to the beach tend to be more spread out. we like brittany as you don't have to travel too far - like cornwall with better weather and less crowds. carnac good, les deux fountaines, la garangeiore, dol. best to choose where you want to go and then company. try not to travel on a saturday - espec if you go to vendee in school hols as traffic bad.

sorry, ignore loads of my message as didn't click that you are flying

sory i'm new to all this - really should have previewed message. other thing we have done is google name of site and get reviews and look on ukcampsites.co.uk - sometimes you get comments about some companies being good/bad at particular sites

Hi dreaming - we did drive to Siblu camp in the vendee year before last - but the drive was so horrific with DS1 (was a bub) that it put us right off long drives! We stayed both times in the mobile homes and liked the space and independence - couldnt stay in a hotel room now, esp with two boys! We want to go in early June - will the weather be warm enough in Brittany?

agree, we hated drive to vendee, but brittany is much easier (from st malo anyway). we used to go may half term and the week after which was warm enough for us. warm enough to swim, barbecue and for the beach. ideal if you have youngish children. bit like over here, but slightly warmer/drier. sometimes bit cold at night, just put extra blankets on bed. now go in summer holidays as children older, but we have to share the beach with other people, unlike june. weather not as reliable in brittany as vendee, but we found vendee really cold at night, even in august. if you get good weather you cannot beat brittany - towns older with more character and beaches prettier than vendee.

oh lordy, don;t say that. we are going to vendee

dreamingofsun · 16/10/2009 21:58

you may love vendee - majority of people returned each year to the campsite we were on (garangoire). plus less chance of rain. took 2.5 hours to drive back (early morning), 4 hours to drive down - that was cause it was a saturday in summer hols. we live in dorset so are very fussy about beaches. we had a good holiday, just prefer brittany - as long as it doesn't rain of course

pointyhat · 16/10/2009 22:03

fussy about beaches in dorset?

I went on holiday to dorset and was very disappointed in teh beaches. Couldn't find a decent one anywhere in teh south west

go here! it's fab!! been twice with canvas (Selectcamp go too)and will go back again in the future! Short flight to Venice and you ahve everything you could possibly want on the campsite!! Going to the Langeudoc next year with Siblu - le bois du valmarie, hope it's as good!
