places to stay in turkey

we are planning to have a fortnight in turkey with boys aged 7 and 9. can any one recommend any nice resorts with a bit of local character. Also any holiday companies you have used and any appartments or villas

Can't remember the place we stayed (it was years ago) but I can recommend Simply Turkey who we travelled with. As, I say it was a while ago but I've seen their brochure since and their places look lovely!
They're part of the Simply Travel group (wwww.simply-travel.com). Not cheap though!

I reccomend Dalyan. Beautiful beach, miles long, so easy to get away from the crowds. The beach is some distance from Dalyan, so you have to get ther either by boat or dolmus (minibus). Lots of boat trips, sea or river / lake. Lots of turtles to spot.Opportunities for diving etc.Dalyan has some excellent restaurants. Not too far from Dalaman airport. We had a fabulous time with our 3 year old twins, and friends with older boys have been back 3 times.

Marmaris and Icmeler are also great. The Turks love kids so you will find them welcome everywhere, all restaurants and hotels. The main supermarkets stock all Pampers nappies but beware, the pale blue packets are the plastic ones, so buy the Premiums if you want what we get in the UK. Prices are about the same as here or less although the exchange rate can make it much better. You can also buy all kinds of baby food and formula but usually from a Pharmacy although some supermarkets offer some types. The food is great as they cook a lot of fish, chicken and vegetables.

We went with Sunsail to Club Yedi Tepee. There's a link to Sunsail on the Mumsnet home page. We had a fantastic time, learned to sail, relaxed and visited nearby villages and the town of Bodrum only 15 minutes away by taxi. Our child (only 2 years old) was very well looked after in the nursury from 9 to 5. But the kids clubs cater for kids up to early teenage years. All the kids of every age seemed to be having a fantastic time. They've got a few clubs in Turkey, it's worth getting hold of a brochure.

Thanks for all your advice. We are getting closer to booking. We have narrowed our choices down a bit. We would like to be near the sea and my husband is keen if possible to rent a motorboat as we did in Corfu. we are keen on appartments or villas. Airconditionoing would be nice in aug. We like the look of Dalyan. Where did you stay Faith?We have also looked at Tapestry holidays,Jiigsaw holidays esp Seliyme, Aykaka, Gocek. Has anybody been to any of these places? Sorry to ramble

Sorry, too late to be useful, but we stayed in the Ozalp apartments in Dalyan. Not luxurious, but absolutely fine, maid service eveery day. Let us know how you find Gocek. I love Turkey, but would not go back to Marmaris /Bodrum. I was last there about 14 years ago, and hear they are fairly grim now.

Thanks for all your advice. We have just booked to go to Gocek with tapestry holidays as we were able to book for next year with this years prices. They were very helpful and said that if there is a better deal when the new brochure comes out we can swap to it
