We just used the yellow cabs. They have a set price from JFK to Manhatten (40$ springs to mind but that was 18m ago)

Yes yellow cab is a fixed fare into Manhattan.

When we lived in NY with baby DS we always used a company called Dial 7 to go to and from the airport as they'd provide car seats for little'uns.

Another one for a yellow cab here.

thanks folks. i thought maybe negotiating the taxi line would be too stressful after the flight etc... but it seems ok if you are all recommending. thanks again....

Hi when we were last in USA, 2 years ago we were visiting loads of places and used super shuttle for all 6 of our airport transfers. Found them very reliable, friendly and pretty inexpensive compared to some. Can be pre booked or visit the Super shuttle desk in airport to arrange on arrival.

Another vote for a yellow cab. We went last year and arrived with 2 tired DDs, there are lots of cabs standing by and the queue was not too long at all. There is a set fee from JFK to Manhattan.

Taxi line well organised , they have someone sorting you into taxis

We just got back from NYC, but we flew into Newark. A relative arranged for our transfers (as a wedding present), and honestly it was fab - we got a taxi last time but its a bit stressful after you have waited around in customs/immigration for 1+ hours to then have to wait in a taxi queue.
a
I think realtive organised it through hotel concierge - they were at the airport waiting for us (with a wee sign with our name on) - had a lovely car with water & papers.

Probably a bit more expensive than a taxi - but worth every penny.

bebs63 · 14/10/2009 21:03

hi geordieminx, do you remember the name of the car people?

Yes, as I havent unpacked bags yet am very organised - it was Noble Limousines. Was worth it just for the wee sign with Mr and Mrs Minx on it

Carmel are great! I used to use them all the time, mostly cos i loved their phone number - 666-6666. We used to call them 'The Devils Car Service'!

Yellow cabs have a fixed price LEAVING JFK into Manhattan, but an open meter for going from Manhattan into JFK. But they're as good as any other means, for sure.

AttilaTheMeerkat · 16/11/2009 09:33

Would say that not all yellow cab drivers do actually want to take people back to JFK.
