Recommendations for a holiday in October with a 6 month old

Any ideas? We'd like to go somewhere that's likely to still be warm in the autumn, but not a long flight, and are undecided about self catering versus hotels/resorts. This will be our first holiday away with dd and I'm after some guidance!

4 hours to the canaries?

think balearics will still be warm but not hot in October? Canaries more reliable and hotter but further away. I would go self catering every time - couped up in a hotel room with a six month old who needs to be in bed by 8 is my idea of hell. Self catering - more space and privacy, kitchen and eating when you want and generally cheaper! Have a look at ownersdirect or villarenters.com.
