Holiday in August with a 3 and a 1 year old, want nice beaches, quiet resort any recommendations?

We are looking for somewhere with nice beaches within walking distance as we prefer the beach to pool, also looking at quiet resorts ideally not a big complex. We have holidayed in Greece a lot pre children but think it will be too hot for them in August, but have no idea where to start looking. Any advice or tips would be gratefully received. We would prefer self catering with 2 bed apartment if poss. TIA

We went to the South of France last September with a 5 month old and 2.5 year old. We stayed in a 2 bed caravan which wouldn't normally be our thing but was in fact lovely. The french know how to do camping. We flew to Nice with Easyjet, the flight time was less than 2 hours (from gatwick) and hired a car. Loved it. I think the place we stayed in was called the sur de loup campsite. We went during the first week of September. The weather was perfect but not sure what it would be like in August.

Failing that several people have recommended Majorca to me.
