School trip to Thailand

I have already posted this on the secondary school thread but wanted to know what anyone else thought.

Ds (year 8) is due to go to Chaing Mai, Thailand on 30th May. some kids have already dropped out. FCO say its ok to travel to except in the south. so for me it seems ok, anyone else? Or am I just stupid to send him off to a country in political turmoil?

Why on earth have they dropped out? Chiang Mai is about 24 hours bus ride from the South. The only Muslims are in the South.

FWIW, I've travelled in South too. No big deal.
