You have to have 6 months on it for Spain, I would assume Tenerife is the same.

CompareTheMeerkat · 06/04/2009 20:23

I thought it had been changed in Europe so you can fly up until the date it expires, but can't say for definite.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 06/04/2009 20:24

Quite a few countries insist that you have so many months' unexpired time on your passport at the end of your holiday but this page of the Spanish Consulate website seems to say that you can stay in Spain up to the expiry date of your passport (assuming it's one of the nationalities listed there). If you're in any doubt, ring them for advice.

Enjoy your holiday!

Oh. Cross-post with DSM.

DSM · 06/04/2009 20:26

Oh, maybe it has changed.

I last went to Spain in February 08, and you definitely needed 6 months then. I had to go through to the passport office the day before, wait 4 hours and pay £140, because I only had 5 months left on my passport.

arghhhhhhhhhhhh

so we are going to get dp a new passport, need to do the 3 week check and send thing - both the passport office and post office sites location checker tools are buggered so I cant find the nearest check and send postoffice. Grrrrrrrrrrr

But, geordieminx, if I've read the Spanish Consulate website correctly, you don't need to get your dp a new passport. Call them in the morning before you start rushing around filling in forms and going to the post office.

DSM · 06/04/2009 21:33

It does say this:

British passport [European Community] holders:

You do not need a minimum of validity in your passport to travel to Spain.

So presumably, you will be okay.

Either they have changed it since last year, or the Passport Office gave me the wrong advice.

geordieminx · 06/04/2009 21:50

Can you link to that bit please? Cant find it {{{{tired eyes emoticon)))))))

we came back to cyprus with 4 days left on DD passport- it was commented on lots, but we were not refused entry.

geordieminx · 07/04/2009 08:29

Thanks for that ladies.

I have sent him off with his passport, and he is going to do the check and send thing at lunch time as punishment.

Honestly, blokes are just so useless!
