We are thinking of going on a package to Corsica, we have 2 children, they are 6 and 4. Interested to know if other mumsnetters have been there and what it was like.

JeanPoole we are thinking of Corsica because we can get a package holiday and it's French speaking, while we are waiting for someone to come back to us, what appeals to you about it?

We had our honeymoon on Corsica, it's a beautiful place. Would recommend Calvi, has a lovely beach which slopes gently down to the sea, a nice old town, marina etc, and lots of restaurants (it's not too lively, though!).

oh yes - love the place - had the best holiday ever there a few yrs ago. We were nr Propriano with our then 2yo. We found the most wonderful, shallow, sandy deserted beaches, fantastic simple french food, and loved the wild coastline. Would love to go back one day. But I think its very hot in July/Aug and its better visited in June or Sept. We went with Simply Travel, who ran an onsite Creche so we got a break too, and the staff babysat for us so we could have an evening meal alone. But Simply don't do any resorts with Creche/Kids Club in Corsica anymore.

Beautiful place, would love to go back, fear it is completely overrun in high season though. Seem to remember food was quite expensive compmared to France, and lots of emphasis on cooked meats and local cheeses, which I didn´t like.. Beaches great for young children, Calvi is fab, great little train that runs through the island, north to south.

My overall recollection from visit in my youth: truely magnificent place!

We went (before children) in June or July 2007 (I think). There is a jazz festival in Calvi there in the summer if it is your cup of tea, lots of outdoor music etc. Loved the town and the beach, the only drawback for me was that we found going out to restaurants was as expensive as it would be to eat out here every night, luckily we prefer to go self catering so we have the choice but it might put me off going again - unless I was feeling rich!

Can I come with you , I've been once (pre ds) and have always wanted to go back. Don't forget that it is more expensive than mainland France and what with the exchange rate at the moment..............
