Day out suggestions for petrol head DP and DS

It's my DP's birthday near Easter and, as he's been working mad hours recently, I thought I'd treat him to a weekend away somewhere. He's a total petrol head and likes anything with an engine - as does our 2.5yr old DS!!!!

Anyone recommend somewhere to visit within 2hrs of South Bucks? Our DS is very easy going so I'd like this to be more of a treat for DP, rather than a family day out type of thing.

Thanks!!!

p.s. Activities would be good, rather than looking round a museum!

how about staying in strtaford upon avon? you could go to

stratford armouries museum complete with reocmmended playbarn

hatton country world

and then head into stratford for the river, food and shopping.

Brooklands and mercedes benz world

Stratford Armouries has a launch weekend over Easter, with camel rides and all sorts of other things. Not sure if there is much for the petrolhead, but you could combine your Stratford trip with a visitor to the Coventry Transport Museum with the Dr Who exhibition

Stratford Armouries is pretty fab, I was there for 3 hours yesterday. The playbarn is great, haven't seen the rest yet.

We enjoyed the Heritage Motor Centre at Gaydon near Stratford

I thought of Beaulieu Motor Museum too. We took petrolhead 13 year old nephew there last summer and he totally loved it. There are lots of nice places to stay in the New Forest and it's great for small children (ponies and little donkeys wandering through the forest etc.) Sammy Miller's Motorcycle Museum isn't too far away either, in Bashley (about 10ish miles from Beaulieu). You could prob get a good accommodation deal atm...

Just logged on in the hope that someone had replied to my post - there you all are! Thanks so much for the fab suggestions. We've not been to any of them so we'll add them to our 'day trip ideas' list!

Muchas!

There's not all that much to Mercedes Benz World, it's a big showroom basically, though you can watch cars on the track, the key is to book your husband a drive in an AMG

Brooklands community playground is very close by and consists of a mini racing track designed for bicycles and an average-sized playground.
