Passport application - is my short birth certificate OK?

I'm applying for DS's first passport so I need to send either my passport or my birth certificate to prove I'm his mother.

The problem is my passport is up for renewal so will be sent in for my own application.

I only have my short birth certificate. Will they accept this?

And does anyone know how quickly are they being returned at the moment? We've got 5 weeks til the trip...

Don't you just need to put your passport number and issue date on the form?

Just did DSs last week, sent the short cert and they've asked for the long one - that's his birth cert though.

My passport has expired so when it said 'current' passport I'm assuming they mean valid. Am I assuming wrong?

I'd forgotten about the long birth cert for him too, until I was searching for my birth cert and found the letter they sent back to me asking for DD's when I applied for her 2 years ago. Can they not find enough ways to get more money out of me?!

I got caught out by this for DS2. He needed a passport and I sent my "certificate" only for it to be rejected for the long one. I had no idea such one existed and called my mum in a fury for her not giving it to me years ago.

She had no clue either so I had to apply online and pay for it. I live outside the I'm and was impressed with how quickly it arrived so apply asap and you may get it in time .
