Where to go in southern Italy?

We want that region as it's cheap and warm. We've been to Abruzzo, a couple of years ago, but wanted to try somewhere else. Any suggestions? We're after a villa close (within 10km) to the sea.

Have you been to Sardinia? Or were you thinking the mainland?

Sardinia would be lovely. But is it cheap?

We're off to Sardinia for summer half term since I managed to get some budget flights for the week. Hedging my bets with regard to accommodation - Sardinia is not renowned for being cheap but it's part and parcel of its appeal! I'm not planning to book until 2-3 wks beforehand since I hope to get a late booking discount.

No so far south but Le Marche region is lovely.

I went to sardinia lat year and we are going back this year as the beaches were just breath taking.

Puglia is lovely - not as pretty as Le Marche or Tuscany/Umbria but lots of lovely places to visit, and unspoilt with not to many braying Brits around. Long Travel are the Southern Italy specialists - can highly recommend them. We've been to Puglia twice and would definitely go back. Try the areas around Ostuni or Cisternino.

oh, and Puglia is very cheap! About half the cost of the equivalent holiday in Tuscany.
