Its nothing like Blackpool, and Argeles is much nicer!

we were at argeles last year, won't be going back. Far too commercialised. Reminded us of an english seaside town tbh. i.e. bcuket and spade shops, cheap tacky teeshirts, lots of kebabs and chipshop type eateries. You would need to drive out of the area to get a real local french feel to things.

We tried somewhere different for a change but will be back at the cote d'azur again this year. (which in parts is also quite cosmopolitan and commercialised but far nicer. loads very good restaurants, wonderful seafood, expensive shops (window shopping mostly) and just great beaches.

it is a bit downmarket in French terms but much nicer than Blackpool - nice restaurants/seafront but loads of campsites which is what makes it scruffier as far as the snootier French are concerned!! But it's in a beautiful part of France with Collioure nearby which is so very pretty and it's fine for using as a base

Thanks for those comments. It's really hard to get a feel for the place.

Have not been to Argelès, but we had a French exchange student from near there last year & he said it's great (which we would not say about Blackpool!)
