my mum and dad are off on a wee holiday to the south coast which includes a shopping trip over to calais to the cite europe.

dad wants to get some cheap tobacco but when i looked on the site it just seems to be a shopping mall albeit with a few wine shops.

anyone been? anyone know if/where he can buy tobacco in the cite europe?

Bumping for you.

Probably in the tesco there.. which is for Brits on the brooze cruise. I would check it really is cheaper, given the current exchange rate.

we used to go to cite europe very often as husband used to be tour driver for coach company before dd came along.

you can't buy any tobacco products in cite europe you have to go into calais town or other discount booze warehouses.

the best place to but alcohol in cite europe is tesco as they used to be cheaper than anywhere.

thanks everyone!

I have since found out that supermarkets in France don't sell tobacco and there is no Tabac in cite europe

I found this on another site...

Why is there no TABAC at Cité Europe?
We often get asked this question. In France TABAC's are effectively a union. The sale of tobacco is also regulated. The number of TABAC's in a town depends on its population. The population of Coquelles is just 1,200 people so it is allowed one TABAC, hence no shop in the shopping centre.

Guess dad will just have to buy his tobacco on the boat!

Or you just drive up the motorway a bit and go into Belgium - isn't far. And as soon as you go over the border there are warehouse places to buy tobacco (or there was when i last went about 5 years ago!)

sadly its an organised bus trip so no option to detour

Last time I went on an organised coach trip to Cite Europe, the coach driver asked if anyone wanted any tobacco. Having dropped us off at Cite Europe he went and took the "smokers" elsewhere to get their tobacco and then bought them back again to continue shopping. He was happy to get some for anyone that didn't want to go with him as well. Maybe worth your Dad asking with the driver as they board.
