Help!
DP and I to want get away from gloomy Glasgow in Easter Hols and have decided the Canary Islands are probably the most sensible option. I will be about 6 months pregnant and we will have DD's (2 and 4) in tow.

The problem is that we have never been there before and neither of us are very keen on big resorts with British pubs etc.

We wnt self catering aprtments, pool, a clean beach, near a nice town, maybe with some spanish restaurants.

We can't afford a 5-star hotel (Princess Yaiza looks lovely) not bothered about chilcare, just want it clean and relaxed. Any ideas?

Bumping for you.

needahand · 22/01/2009 22:22

We went to H10 Rubicon palace in Lanzarote. All inclusive (so perhaps not what you need) but food was good, loads of pools for the kids and kid club. It was clean (and I am fussy) and relaxed

PlumBumMum · 22/01/2009 22:27

def Lanzarote majority of resorts are only 2 stories high

But don't stay in old town Peurto del Carmen its beautiful but on a hill so not suitable when 6mths pg and 2 small dc

New town mostly flat lots of lovely resturants

smartiejake · 22/01/2009 22:33

Playa Blanca is a lovely resort. Not too bit or commercial

Jbck · 22/01/2009 22:45

Playa Blanca vote too. Quiet v child friendly altho' not especially Spanish iykwim.
Hoping to go back in the next year or two.

Wispabarsareback · 22/01/2009 22:54

Have you thought about La Gomera? It's smaller and quieter than the other Canary Islands, and really stunning - you get there on a boat from Tenerife. We stayed a few years ago at Tecina Jardina (I think that was the name of the resort - it was at the top of a cliff with a lift to the beach below, and was a lovely relaxed place).

Lanzarote Princess in Playa Blanca is fab...

pinkkoala · 23/01/2009 08:09

hi

i have stayed in puerto del carmen, it is a bit hilly so may not be suitable for you. i have stayed in playa blanca which was nice, there are some hills though, also have you thought of feurteventura, i have been there we stayed at corralejo, it was lovely.

it isn't as busy as the other islands, but still has some nice restaurants, english and spainish and other types. it is quite flat and there is a lovely beach, but the tide has a strong current, so be careful.

we went self catering but can't remember the name of the apartments, it was 6 years ago.

i prefer it to all the other canary islands.

You need Rubicon Aparthotel. I recommend it to everyone on here, we looked at princess yaiza too as it was just along from Rubicon but actually prefered ours - the location is far better as it is on the Marina which is much nicer than Playa Blanca itself. Its all new, very flat, and lots of lovely resturants.

The hotel does breakfast, has 2 pools (1 kids),indoor pool, a playroom, park and a gym. Its 2 minutes from a supermarket and the marina

smallorange · 23/01/2009 13:37

Thanks. I am looking all these up on google. This is the first year where we have really had to think about what the kids want too - and that seems to be a huge pool, beach and lots of other kids!

Best resorts for what you describe imho

Costa Teguise in Lanzorote

Corralejo in Fuerteventura

Puerto Morgan - Gran Canaria

Maspalomas - Gran Canaria (dc's will love exploring the sand dunes but they might not be as much fun for you. The rest of the beach/resort is flattish though)

Puerto Morgan is the least "touristy" and most authentic. It is beautiful but there isn't that much accommodation in the resort itself

flossie64 · 23/01/2009 14:04

We went to Costa Teguise 2yrs ago and are returning this autumn.
It is quite flat there and where we stayed is far enough away to be quieter ,vbut near enough to take a stroll at night.
Los Zocos -first choice S/C or you can opt in to the all inc when you arrive.
This yr Sands beach resort -Jet2.com it has its own private beach lagoon and 13 swim pools (1 for each day of the hols)

basementbear · 23/01/2009 14:07

Lanzarote or Fuerteventura definitely better than Tenerife or Gran Canaria.

Puerto Mogan in Gran Canaria is a lovely resort, small beach and beautiful Marina but very German and more expensive than some of the other resorts. Arguineguin (also in GC) is nice and very Spanish

geordieminx · 23/01/2009 15:34

Apologies - I meant RUBIMAR APARTHOTEL not Rubicon.

mousemole · 23/01/2009 15:50

Am probably going to get flamed, or called a troll, as I have linked to these lot before, but honestly I am not on commission (but should be, the amount of plugging I do for them!!) They are based in Playa Blanca, which is about 30 minute drive from the airport. It's a quiet resort - didn't see or hear any loud bars or discos, and restaurants are very family friendly. (Had DS who was a toddler when we went)lovely villas We stayed on Parque del Rey, which is about five minutes in the car from the sea, or 20 minute walk. The villas have everything - heated pool,tv, dvd player, stereo, dishwasher, washing machine and microwave. The letting agents wil also provide things like high chairs, travel cot, & steriliser if you needed it. Pools were fab- warm, cleaned during our week stay, and no fighting over sunbeds! We had such a relaxing holiday, we went back again the following year.
