We want to go somewhere warm (mid to late 20's) for May half term, we need to fly out on the sat (23rd) or sun (24th) for 7 days. There will be 4 adults and 3 children, we'd like a villa and not flight thats less than 4 hours.

So where should we go?

Oh we're not too keen on anything overly touristy and like to be able to experinece the local food.

All ideas gratefully recieved!

Portugal, for definite.

Don't go to Europe (i.e balearics), we've tried it 3 yrs on the trot and its pissed down every time.

What's your budget for accommodation?

stardazzle · 20/12/2008 18:31

i think we're bugeting around 500ish per person inc children so total holiday budget a max of £3500, but less is good, all the more to spend on wine!

I usually go to a very small place between Albufeira and Vilamoura but you would need a car to travel to more of a variety of eateries. My parents were in Alvor (western algarve) in November and I visited for the weekend, that had a lot of nice eateries, all your local food too i.e. the neon lights were portuguese, not english. We also like Tavira (eastern algarve).

Here's an example on owners direct website Cost is just over £600 per week for when you want to go.

stardazzle · 20/12/2008 18:34

Flights from London Gatwick (for example) are here if the link works. Works out about £200+ per person.

Hulababy · 20/12/2008 18:37

Good thinking stardazzle!

Villa with pool ideally too.
Will do car hire as well.

ChristmasDisco · 20/12/2008 18:38

europcar are quite good for car hire, used them the last 3 times i've been to portugal.

stardazzle · 20/12/2008 18:42

hula - have got three villa with pools brouchers, but we seem to be limited as lots of the flights are mid week and we really need sat/sun.

Budget sounds fine for us

Hulababy · 21/12/2008 13:04

stardazzle - that villa looks lovely. Even with pool heating for the week, it is still only about £500 per family. Would just need flights and car hire after that.

stardazzle · 21/12/2008 14:12

its good isn't it. Will have to look into flights although think these ara bout £300/person
