Can someone PLEASE help me with Ryanair luggage

This is driving me crazy, I am going on holiday for 2weeks and am only allowe 15kilos of luggage between dd and me.

I am also allowed 10kg of hand luggage but the max size of the bag can only be 55cm x 40cm x 20cm. Can anyone recommend a bag this size or slighlty smaller? I was thinking of a kids suitcase maybe?

You can get adult's wheeled suitcases that are small enough to fit the hand-luggage criteria. I usually take those rather than check-in luggage and can fit almost a weeks' worth of clothes in them.

I will go and have a look for one, thanks, this is just sooooo stressful...

You get 15kg of baggage each. But it is 15 kg each NOT 30 kg between the two of you, so two bags of 14 kg each OK. One bag of 8kg and one of 20 kg they will charge you for 5kg of excess!

When the whole family is travelling for a big trip I have been known to spend most of the night before jumping on and off the bathroom scales trying to balance the bags out!

Store staff will usually should occassionally be able to advise which bags are allowed in the cabin.

Umm ... doesn't it depend on the age of the child? If your daughter is under 2 and not in a seat of her own, you won't get a luggage allowance for her?

that is the problem dd is not allowed luggage, I can take a kids suitcase as hand luggage...

We flew to spain with ryanair in the summer and managed to take clothes for a week as hand luggage. We bought the suitcases in Sports World, they were Dunlop cases and were perfect size, they were really cheap, less than £10 each and were just under ryanair's size limit. The measurements were on the label.

Remember you won't even get a hand luggage allowance for your DD so if you take a small suitcase for her you'll only get one other bag which may be a change bag. I've travelled with ryanair probably 7/8 times with my DD since she was born 16 months ago and it isn't easy as they are very strict with luggage - any opportunity they can take to get you to fork over extra cash they'll jump at.

Another thing to be aware of - according to my dh, you may need to carry your handluggage suitcase through security, not wheel it (if it has wheels). I had to do this a few weeks ago when I went through Glasgow Airport. It was fine to wheel it up to the entrance to security, and once through security, but I had to carry it through security - presumeably to prove that I could lift it.

One other thing - dh has travelled a lot this year, and we've flown several times as a family, and they have never weighed our handluggage, even when it was a suitcase, so provided you can carry the suitcase as if it isn't too heavy, you can get away with it being a bit over 10kg.

Thanks for the advice everyone, my lugage was fine in the end, they dont weighit on the way out but do on the way back so they are hoping you will buy loads while away so they can get more money from you.
