Insurance - if we are quarantined to our cabin......

will our travel insurance pay for us to leave the ship on our cruise and find a secluded hotel, or return to England and take the trip another time.

DS's two best friends have chicken pox. We are going for 2 weeks on Thusday. He is just 2yrs old and I have been told that he won't be allowed out of the cabin if he gets chicken pox. An absolutely unnacceptable situation imo.

I agree. If he's got it, he's infectious before the spots come out, so keeping him the cabin from that point is fairly pointless.

Commiserations, btw - my dd came out in spots yesterday

You won't be allowed to fly back anyway with a spotty child. Suspect the best you could claim would be loss of any extra prebooked excursions and facilities but speak to the insurer or you may be put ashore. If he develops it beforehand you could claim cancellation but not just on a maybe. You may well have to take the local dr's advice to exclude him, whether that is the uk 5 days or can be up to 10. Presumably you/dh aren't excluded as you don't carry it if you've had it already.

I was told that if you get c pox vaccination within a few days of being exposed, it can head off or severely reduce the severity of the infection - might be worth discussing with your GP?

MummyGorilla · 17/12/2008 09:36

sorry about the 2 severely/severities!

Trouble is CP incubates for 10 days to 3 weeks so even if they have only just come down with it, your ds may have similarly been exposed previously. A vaccine therefore wouldn't be of much use, as he could still develop it, and isn't readily available anyway.
