Thanks for advice. We want to stay near the beach and Santa Monica looks fun and could go out without driving all the time. Shutters looks a bit OTT (and v expensive) but there's one next door called Cassa Del Mar which we could get a better rate for. What about the Oceana? That looks quite funky....Any other suggestions?

www.tripadvisor.com has up to date reviews and photos. I would go by the photos of the hotels (oceanas pool and building does not generally look child friendly) more than anything else as comments can be subjective (unless people overall are complaining about the same problems).

Santa Monica is a great place to stay. If you are on a tight budget the travellodge is only about £60 a night but it is about 15-20 minutes walk from the beach.

ooh yes please- any advice gratefully received. Only going cos of dh's work and will hang out with mates for a bit but any activites (for grown ups as well as dd) would be smashing.

A small point re Warner Bros.

You will be able to do the Warners Bros tour but your DD is too young (think the minimum age for children to do this tour is 12).

Wow - loads to do. Thanks for that!
