Have just had a quick look at the website and just about fainted at the prices for August (can only go during school hols). Cheapest accommodation cost is £999.00 It seems very expensive to me when the only activity that is free is the swimming pool or am I just being naive?

Waste of money - Hated Centre Parcs when we went last year.

Fimbo · 23/02/2005 20:27

OOh Galaxy tell me why. Thats the other reason I don't want to fork out loads of money as I am not sure its my dh's cup of tea.

Well we loved their garden shed!
In fact so much so we are doing some potting their again.

Villa was dirty and run-down. Got the highchair out and it was covered in greasy dried on crap. Cot was broken. Villa crawling with ants upon arrival. Furniture ropey. Toilet seat broken.

Food inadequate and over-priced. 2 nasty accidents on pool slides whilst we were there. Staff rude and abrupt. Cock-ups on pre-booked activities which took 2 hours to sort out. Spa mediocre.

Best bit was the bikes and the freedom that ds (11 at the time) was able to enjoy and the supermarket was well stocked.

Never again though (Elevedon by the way).

Oh and 4 nights in an Executive villa cost us £850 at Whitsun. Total waste of money.

Can you tell I was a bit pissed off about it

bluesky · 23/02/2005 20:34

Galaxy, have you complained, how did they deal with it? Did you do it whilst you were there or afterwards? An organisation that size must have quite a slick customer service dept in operation.

galaxy · 23/02/2005 20:38

We complained to the manager upon arrival. She took an hour to agree to see us. She offered us £40.00 as a refund to be used against treatments. After a day's arguing, we managed to get £150 refund and all new equipment in villa (no alternatives available).

Customer services was apalling.

Galaxy - we had a similar experience New Year 2004 in a VIP exec villa at Oasis. We kicked up merry hell and got a free week at Oct half term. We had a lovely time then - I think they had made a big effort to get us into a nice VIP villa though.

And it was probably better just because it was free

We've enjoyed it in the past when the children were little but now they are a bit older we're happier being a bit more ambitious and trying European City breaks instead

Friends of ours just back from Butlins in Bognor and she raved about it.

Fimbo · 23/02/2005 20:51

Galaxy what a nightmare. You really don't expect that sort of thing from a company of their supposed "calibre". My dh already thinks it is just an upmarket version of Butlins at about 4 times the cost!! Your experience will have put him off for life!! Have decided to go back with Hoseason Cottages.

im a butlins fan - havent done bognor yet - did minehead in 2003 and doing skegness this year - maybe bognor next year! But at £280 for a week half board, im not going to turn it down, especially with all the "free" entertainment supplied by the red coats. highly reccomend it.

amylou · 23/02/2005 22:08

I would say if you can wait until nearer the time to get a last minute deal you will get it much cheaper - they are always doing a 30% or sometimes you can get a 50% discount offer if you can go last minute.
I went to Oasis at christmas and my sister in law paid full price over £1200 for a week for a executive lodge but when we got there we found out they were so underbooked that nearer the time they were offering 50% discount and also 4 night breaks over xmas which when we booked in October we were told you could only book in 7 night blocks at xmas.

tiredemma · 24/02/2005 10:24

it is expensive at that time of the year.
we would never go there in the summer as we could go abroad for that!
but we LOVE it in the winter which is the best time of the year to go.
id love to be there right now, in one of the newer accomodation, with the fire burner going and the snow outside! mmmm!

we have booked for dec 12th this year- the xmas countdown weeks and cant wait!
