We are in Dordogne at the minute, and I want to buy nice stuff for self catering - everything shockingly expensive with currency exchange. Which f the big supermarkets have the best range?
Ta!

they're all pretty similar to be honest - like here seems to depend on the size of the store. have you tried googling where you are to find nearest hypermarket - auchan or carrefour usually pretty good for range

When visiting my parents in Brittany recently, I was very disappointed with Leclerc and preferred Hyper Champion. My mum and dad use Aldi, Lidl and Leader Price at top up at Super U and Leclerc. They really rate leader price for cheapness and range.

I dunno but were a bit confused recently when people were coming out of the "Casino" pushing supermarket trollies!!!!

Auchan all the way! Good meat and fish (if you eat it) and bread...and what a great day out for all the family...

Another vote for Auchan, love the Extenso kids clothes they do. Like the Tex range too, anybody know which one does that????

MilaMae · 05/09/2008 16:03

I think Auchan have a budget area with all the Value range altogether. I was shocked at how pricey they all were this year though with exchange rate as it is.

We found Carrefour best, but didn't try Auchen.
Carrefour do Tex stuff

Auchan.

Huge boxes of very fresh prawns. Mmmmmmm.....

Auchan and Géant (Casino hypermarché). Carrefour good but prefer these two as they seem to have more food choice. Carrefour excellent for non-food stuff. The instore restaurant in Geant is usually ok for a quick lunch as well (delicious rosé sold by the small carafe very cheaply!).

The only time I've been in a Lidl in France I was disappointed - thought it wasn't nearly as good as in the UK or Germany/Austria.
