Want a fab hotel in or around Brighton...

PILs have very kindly offered to have dd for a couple of nights and we are going to go somewhere to a hotel. They live N of Brighton, I quite fancy Brighton in fact as in Feb there is not a lot to do out in the country, but am open to suggestions.

Thought of the Hotel du Vin, but was fairly unimpressed by the Harrogate one when I stayed there on business - anyone stayed at the Brighton one?

TIA

not veggie as in stodge, but veggie as in really inventive and tasty, lots of rostis & towers and wonderful organic beers/wines. as i say, sil (who's a bit of a foodie) loved hotel du vin food.

Oddly I wasn't that taken with the H du V food in the winchester one, the harrogate one was very good tho.

terre a terre:

71 East Street
Brighton
East Sussex
Tel: +44 (0)1273 729051

Recently won second place in the 2003 Observer Food Awards for Best Restaurant. Often rated within the top ten UK vegetarian restaurants by the National press.

(I'm not on commission, honest!)

my in-laws live in lewes - circa is good if you don't mind a drive/cab. they're also opening a circa-fish restaurant too.

CountessDracula · 08/02/2005 15:39

Thanks! My In laws live in Ditchling, so not far. That's why we're going to Brighton as dd is being dumped on them for a couple of days. Think I would rather stay in brighton tbh. Thanks bundle for all your kind advice!

So when are you off to Drakes then? Looks good fun sort of place.

CountessDracula · 08/02/2005 15:56

w/c 20 Feb. It does look rather nice I think - I love sea views esp from in the bath!

Terre a terre is the most innovative and beautiful food I have ever eaten - it blows me away every time I go there - and I am definately not a vegetarian.

Drakes looks beautiful - although on a main road. Have you checked out Blanch House - that is a little 'boutique' hotel off the main drag.

I stayed at the Oriental a couple of years ago - not plush, but really nice little hotel - great breakfast, nice little touches in bedroom like aromatherapy oil burners and herbal teas and things.
