Just been thinking about it - I used to go to Sitges - really easy to get to, great resort and, I think you ought to know: it is a gay centre. It has a great beach, lovely cafes and, I believe, fantastic night life.

We're going for Easter so will be watching this thread carefully for any tips!

We rented an apartment from here the chap was incredibly helpful recommending the safest areas to stay in since we are travelling with children. (He recommended the Princessa or Born apartments). These are very central and we are looking forward to being able to just pop back to the apartment for siestas and in when teh children get tired of sight seeing!

I'll post some more info on childrens things to do when I get back

we have stayed as a family at Sitges and were aware of its reputation as a gay resort. The only thing we ever noticed was that the beach tended to attract lots of Baywatch Types, over inflated boobs and ahem, taut round buttocks
The cable car is great and the breeze at the top will be welcome. The theme park at Tarragona is Port Aventura and is well worth a visit.
Also we went to a big water park which also has a safari which you travel around on top of a london bus. I think it was called Aqualand.
I think Barcelona is a great place for families. The underground is well air conditioned and makes getting around a pleasure. Have a lovely time

Do the tourist bus - good way to do Barcelona. hop on and hop off whenever you like for one day ticket

I am a lapsed scuba diver and into fishy things in a big way have been to lots of aquariums.
Have to say that Barcelona's aquarium is one of the best I have ever been to.

Gaudi architecture blew me away. Loved it.
(Bored silly at Football stadium - Nou Camp though)

Pancho Trainor is half Irish half Spaniard. Very accommodating. We were about the 5th guests in the apt 2 yrs ago. It is on the 3rd floor - no lifts. Great apt though. In the daytime the little street it is on LOOKS dogdy but we felt safe after 2 days of nothing ontoward. At night is feels very safe.

the top address is his own. the bottom address is a sort of cooperative of apt owners I think he is a member of as I originally got in touch with someone else who put me in touch with Pancho.

Caveat with the last posting: I stole it off a travel agent site ignore all from 'Policies & Disclaimers' onwards. I wouldn't ring that tele number given. Just email the hotel IMO. Is that a naughty thing to suggest?

alux · 06/02/2005 21:30

I would not go to Spain in July/Aug unless it was to Galicia or Cantabria which have much milder summers. All the Spaniards leave the cities and try to find somewhere cooler in August. Barcelona is always v. hot in the summer. Which is why I go either in October or May.

we went to barcelona one august - so hot it was dreadful - we got filthy because it was so hot. i had job of pushing 3 yr old in buggy because it was too hot for him to walk. barcelona is gorgeous but if you dont have to go in august i really wouldnt.

KathH · 25/02/2005 13:26

meant to say my aunty actually lives in barcelona and they all move out in july/august and go to the mountains as its so hot.
